Party like a President
Thursday, March 21

Opening night

Presented by AIGA with support from Fox River Papers and Sappi
5:00 p.m.
Opening night of the conference is a social affair. It's a chance for you to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Outgoing AIGA president Michael Bierut will host an evening of entertainment and feasting, during which AIGA's most prestigious honor–the AIGA medal–will be presented to 2001 recipients, Samuel Antupit and Paula Scher. Sam Shelton will welcome you to D.C. and Sean Adams will pay tribute to the 2000 AIGA medalists–Laurie Haycock Makela and P. Scott Makela, Fred Seibert and Michael Vanderbyl–who were presented with their medals at AIGA conferences in 2000.

Then, the moment you've all been waiting for—it's time to resurrect the infamous AIGA tradition of the 20:20. Brace yourself for laughter, tears and a heart-stopping ride through 20 one-minute interpretations of Voice by 20 designers from all around the country. Chris Pullman moderates: when the timer gets to 60, the presenter gets the hook; no restarts, no mercy!

Finally you can kick back and enjoy musical entertainment courtesy of the super-classy cabaret act The Loser's Lounge, who'll play the kitsch tunes that still make you swoon. Hear a new take on your old favorites—from Bacharach to the Beach Boys—and indulge in plenty of food and cocktails served family-style at conversation-sized round tables.
