Opening night

Opening night of the conference is a social affair. It's a chance
for you to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Outgoing
AIGA president Michael Bierut will host an evening of entertainment
and feasting, during which AIGA's most prestigious honorthe
AIGA medalwill be presented to
2001 recipients, Samuel Antupit and Paula Scher. Sam Shelton will
welcome you to D.C. and Sean Adams will pay tribute to the 2000
AIGA medalistsLaurie Haycock Makela and P. Scott Makela, Fred
Seibert and Michael Vanderbylwho were presented with their
medals at AIGA conferences in 2000.
Then, the moment you've all been waiting forit's time to resurrect
the infamous AIGA tradition of the 20:20.
Brace yourself for laughter, tears and a heart-stopping ride through
20 one-minute interpretations of Voice by 20 designers from all
around the country. Chris Pullman moderates: when the timer gets
to 60, the presenter gets the hook; no restarts, no mercy!
Finally you can kick back and enjoy musical entertainment courtesy
of the super-classy cabaret act The Loser's
Lounge, who'll play the kitsch tunes that still make you
swoon. Hear a new take on your old favoritesfrom Bacharach
to the Beach Boysand indulge in plenty of food and cocktails
served family-style at conversation-sized round tables.
Design Fair party

A chance to meet the conference sponsors and sample their products
and services along with plenty of refreshments and musical entertainment
in the Design Fair. Representatives from the generous
companies who are sponsoring AIGA National Design Conference
2002 will be on hand with demonstrations, product samples and more.
Typographic Quiz

Calling all type buffs for a serific show down on Friday evening
at čVoice.î Libations will be served along with questions guaranteed
to sort the ascenders from the boys. Bring your friends and work
as a team to compete for a beautiful, autographed book on typography
(everybody on the winning team gets their own). Or, if you think
